Our Stance
There is a lot going on in the world today and we here at the Pocket Podcast Network want to make sure it is clear what our stance is on current events.
Black lives matter.
Trans people are who they say they are.
We stand with the communities that are hurting right now and we hope you will stand with us.
Network Member News
While theater has certainly not been happening in familiar ways this season, the show must go on! Britty (Colt Classics, No Dice, Managing Director) directed a Zoom-exclusive staged reading of Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson in May; a play STEAMpunks fans may recognize as chronicling the life of astronomer Henrietta Leavitt. It was a resounding success and even made front page news!
Simultaneous Catch co-hosts Josh and Adam are no strangers to the virtual Erie theater scene either. The football fans performed in Dramashop's Afar But Not Apart Cabaret, benefitting the 2019-20 Supporting Players Drive. They did absolutely killed their rendition of “You and Me (But Mostly Me)” from The Book of Mormon!
Speaking of music, the musicians of PPN have also been hard at work lately. Chris (Them's the Facts) and the Organ Machines released a new single entitled "Entomb" earlier this spring and have recently released a music video to accompany this banger. Check it out here!
Also coming in with new music is David (Time Zones are Hard)! Fresh from a rebrand with a hip new sound, David is releasing new music under the name Sarr. Check out Sarr on Facebook and be on the lookout for album announcements!
Guest Month Recap
May was Guest Month here on the network! Each show hosted a guest from one of the other network shows and the results were a delight! Listen for yourself below.
On the Ghoul Tank, Lachlan and Ajay were joined by Michael of Green Mountain Mysteries to create a new spooky creature for the Green Mountain Gang to (perhaps?) meet in the future! Listen on Spotify here.
Speaking of Green Mountain Mysteries, their Guest Month episode featured a special oneshot that incorporated history, musicality, and STEAMpunks’ very own Zach as a guest player. Listen on Spotify here.
John and Bethany were joined on Home Viewing by Britty herself and their discussion and analysis of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar goes exactly how you’d expect for the three of them. Listen on Spotify here.
No Dice took to the high seas with the Ghoul Tank’s Lachlan guest playing a perhaps familiar character in a swashbuckling pirate adventure. Listen on Spotify here.
JD and Alex welcomed John (Home Viewing, Them’s the Facts) on to sort the characters of classic sports anime Yuri! On Ice and to debate the merits of dogs on ice. Listen on Spotify here.
Speaking of Sorted, JD and Alex hopped over to STEAMpunks to help Emily and Zach sort our favorite historical folx into the various Hogwarts houses! Listen on Spotify here.
Last but never least, Them’s the Facts welcomed Bethany (Home Viewing) on as an actual guest with a microphone rather than a nameless background biology fact-checker. Listen on Spotify here.
Our Guest Month event was so much fun and we can’t wait to see what our members come up with for our next event (coming soon)!
Show Updates
Things are always in motion at PPN and this season was no exception. Shows are being added, subtracted, and reviewed all the time, so keep checking in to see what’s changed!
We bid a fond farewell to Avocado Toast and That’s So Lesbian earlier this year. If you’re a fan of the shows, don’t worry, they’re not over! Both podcasts will still be releasing episodes but have elected to go solo for the time being. We wish them well.
Coming soon, we will bid a fond hello to a brand new podcast. Colt Classics will premiere on the network mid-June and will feature our local filmmaker, Britty, as well as newcomer to the network and equine specialist, Jessica! Colt Classics is an improv podcast where our hosts will create a new best worst horse movie in every episode. We are excited to have this fun new show on the network, so mark your calendars for the premiere!
COVID-19
These are difficult and stressful times for all of us. We here at PPN strive to lighten your day by providing quality podcasts for your enjoyment and our network members have been working hard to put out new episodes as the situation continues to develop. We realize that everything is tight right now, but here are some ways that you can support our network and the creators that you enjoy as we continue to create.
Britty (Colt Classics, No Dice, Managing Director) has a Patreon for her video and photo art that can be found here.
Lou (No Dice) also has a Patreon for their art, found here.
Additionally, Lou is a tattoo artist for an independent queer-owned tattoo shop that has been struggling through the lockdown. You can support the shop’s reopening efforts here.
If you’re short on cash at the moment, you can help in other ways! Emily and Zach (STEAMpunks) have organized a folding@home team to donate computer space to help scientists combat diseases, specifically including COVID-19. You can help us in the fight by downloading the program and joining our team (246901). It’s a free way to support the effort to find a treatment and vaccine for the virus.
It’s been a big season for the Pocket Podcast Network and there are more big things on the horizon, so stay tuned for our next update! Until then, thank you for listening. Be well.
